1) Heredity and environment play an important role with those who have special needs. It affects the producing of mental ability. An important arguement that cannot be overlooked is the "number of prodigies, children who develop extraordinarily fast." (Kirk, 2009,p 294) Talent is usually shaped by heredidty, but it can usually be shaped by the environment. Family is also a more powerful influence because they are closer to the student.
8) Public schools define children with gifts and talents as people with "intellectual gifts." The term "giftedness" varies in abilities and culture. Exceptional people are also defined by individual and societal needs. In the United States giftedness is usually defined by the use of an IQ test. Recently the definition of giftedness is including more then just abilities directly related to school work.

Differentiated instruction can be shown from this picture. If the teacher asked the students to take pictures of shapes and lines this would be a photo from a student who is more developed. In this photo it has both lines and shapes. A student who is not as developed might have taken a picture with just a few lines, or only shapes, or may have needed help taking the picture, or finding subjects to shoot.
