3) There are many burdens that enter a familys life who has a child with special needs. All members of the family are usually affected. " When thier child is first diagnosed as having a serious disability, most parents feel shock and then denial, guilt, anger, and sadness before they finally adjust." (Kirk, 2009, p16) A few group of people and parents react with severe depression, but support groups are often formed. Not only dealing with the stuggles the child has to face during school, the family has to fight for the special educational needs the day to day life of a special needs students is much different from children with no special needs. The siblings of the student can also be impacted. " Parents often worry about the effect that the child with disabilities has on his or her siblings" (Kirk, 2009, 23). The parents worry about the other child being resentful since the parents have to spend a little more time on the child with special needs.
4) Parents are now able to play an important role in the educational descions that need to be made in order for their child to succeed. After the public law 94-142 was created parents are given due process. This is a set of legal procedures which ensure the fairness of educational decisions and the accountabilty of both the parents and professionals who are able to make the decisions.
